Kristin Hughes

Kristin Hughes, President and Owner of Dogs for Defense Inc. obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Mary and her Master degree from Felician College in New Jersey. Kristin founded Dogs for Defense Inc. in North Dakota and led the company to be selected as a finalist in the Innovate ND business competition.

Kristin has been tirelessly developing a business that is compliant with the ATF, DEA and the city to operate a working dog business.  Under her leadership Dogs for Defense Inc. has rapidly grown into multiple locations while serving a worldwide clientele.

Daniel Hughes

Daniel Hughes, Chief Executive Officer is a graduate of the University of Mary.  Dan was a decorated Special Agent with U.S. Secret Service where he was assigned as a Technical Security Division (T.S.D.) advance agent that gave him the opportunity to supervise E.O.D. and canine assets for major events such as the U.N. General Assembly and in support of high level protectees such as the President of the United States.

Dan became the first Special Agent to handle a canine for the Secret Service after he developed the New York Field Office Explosive Detection Canine Program.

Dan worked as a police officer and canine handler for the Bismarck Police Department where he introduced the explosive detection dog to the state after a 20 year hiatus.  Dan has held the position of Kennel Master, Lead Trainer and Handler for various Department of Defense and Department of State contracts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Sr. Vice PresidentMichael Jenkins
Michael Jenkins

Michael Jenkins, Sr. Vice President completed his degree in Information Security Management from Texas A&M-Central Texas. He was a Senior Agent In Charge with the Central South Texas Narcotics and Special Crimes Task force.

Michael has worked overseas for the past nine years on various Department of Defense and Department of State Contracts in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo and Lebanon.

Jenkins has developed and implemented canine programs with Local Law Enforcement, Federal Law Enforcement, Department of State and the Department of Defense.

Michael has 16 years of experience in the K-9 field and has trained and instructed with Dogs for Defense since 2007.
Our Senior Trainer Cadre: William Hamill

William Hamill completed his bachelor’s degree in Security Management from Bellevue University-Nebraska. He was a Kennel Master and Trainer in the United States Air Force serving 9.5 yrs active duty and was honorably discharged. William has worked with numerous government and civilian agencies to include the Secret Service, ATF, OSI, State Department, State Police and Local Police developing vast canine training knowledge.  William has been overseas for the past six years performing as lead trainer or kennel master on various State Department contracts which have included posts in Baghdad, Hillah, Kabul, and Mazar Sharif.

Jason Gray

Jason Gray was honorably discharged from the Air Force as an E-5 after 8 years of service. He served as a law enforcement narcotic/explosive detection K-9 handler working with US Customs agents on the USA southern border and US Secret Service providing presidential support. After the military Jason has worked overseas for the past nine years on various Department of Defense and Department of State contracts, from the Marshall Islands to Iraq and Afghanistan as a handler to a Kennel Master.

Jose Nunez

Jose Nunez was honorably discharged from the United States Army as an E-6 after 9 years of service, where he served as law enforcement patrol/explosive detection K-9 handler. Nunez worked on Port Security, V.I.P. and U.S. Secret Service Presidential support missions while serving throughout Europe. Nunez also assisted in the training of the new Iraqi and Afghani K-9 teams while deployed as the Non Commissioned officer in Charge in Iraq and Afghanistan. Nunez has spent the last 5 years on Department of Defense and Department of State Contracts in Afghanistan as a K-9 handler and trainer.
